Choose from these projects:
Do something kind for someone you know
EVERYBODY likes to receive kindness! It makes the person feel good (and guess what – it will make YOU feel good to do something kind, too!) Think of something kind you can do for someone and choose who you will do it for. Then DO IT!
After you do your kind act:
Write the story of what you did, answering some of these questions:
o What did you do that was kind?
o How did it make you feel to do something kind?
o How do you think it made the person you were kind to feel?
o Would you do that again for someone else?
o Would you like someone to do that for you?
Draw a picture of your kind act! Share your story and a photo of the drawing or picture with us, we love to read about kindness! Send it to kindnessactivist@gmail.com
Make a poster thanking teachers
Teachers are very important people and they deserve to be thanked!
Supplies you will need:
– A piece of posterboard, paper, construction paper, cardboard – whatever you would like to create on.
– Markers, colors, paints – whatever medium you want to create with.
How to do it:
– Think about what you would like to write or draw. If there are words you are not sure how to spell, ask a friend or adult.
– Look carefully at the paper and make sure all of your words or drawings will fit. Some people like to sketch a bit with a pencil first to make sure it will fit.
– Make your poster!
– Take a picture of you holding your artwork and send it to us to see – kindnessactivist@gmail.com
– Keep your poster. It will be used at a thank you event this fall! We will give you more information on the event and what to do with your artwork.
Paint a kindness rock
Decorating rocks is super fun! You can paint a rock to look like anything – a hot dog, a flower, a tiger… You can also make inspirational rocks by painting messages of kindness on them. With rocks, you can do anything you can imagine!
Supplies needed:
– A rock about the size of your fist or larger. Smooth rocks work best.
– Acrylic paint and a paint brush or spray paint
– Paint pens or markers
– Clear sealant (don’t worry if you don’t have this, we can help!)
How to do it:
– Clean the rock.
– Some people like to paint the rock a solid color with acrylic paint or spray paint, then let it dry before decorating it.
– Decorate it! Use paint or paint pens or markers. You can make it as fancy as you like. Some people like to write inspiring messages on rocks, too.
– If you have clear sealant, after you have decorated your rock and it is dry, seal it.
– Hold onto your rock! It will be added to a “rock snake” in Arlington this fall! Wait for details on when to bring it to Kindness Activist.
– Be sure to send us a photo of your rock! Send it to kindnessactivist@gmail.com
Write a poem
Poems are very, very cool. They are inspiring to read and super fun to write. There are lots of different kinds of poems. You could write:
– A haiku. Haikus are tricky because you need to be careful about how many syllables you use. Here is the formula to make a haiku: 3 lines total
§ Line 1 contains 5 syllables
§ Line 2 contains 7 syllables
§ Line 3 contains 5 syllables
– A limerick. Limericks are often funny poem. Like haikus, they follow a very specific formula. Here is how you write a limerick: 5 lines total
• 2 longer lines (usually 7-10 syllables – called lines A and A)
• 2 shorter lines (usually 5-7 syllables – called lines B and B)
• 1 last line to finish the joke (7-10 syllables – called line A)
• Rhyme scheme: AABBA
– A narrative poem. These poems tell a story and often rhyme. Any number of lines.
No matter what type of poem you choose to write, it can be about anything! Writing a poem about kindness would be very special, but you do not have to use that topic.
Remember to send us a copy of your poem so we can enjoy it, too. Send it to – kindnessactivist@gmail.com
